Being Fully Engaged

Spring is here! There are signs that life is slowly returning to normal. Many of us are vaccinated for COVID. Case numbers, hospitalizations, and deaths are decreasing significantly in Arkansas. There is an optimism that we are coming out on the other side of this pandemic.

“How different our lives are when we know what is deeply important to us, and keeping that picture in mind, we manage ourselves each day to be and to do what really matters most.”

Stephen R. Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Our lives have been disrupted and many have put important goals and plans on hold. Now is a great opportunity to regroup and make sure that you have reset your priorities. Ask yourself:

  • What is important?
  • How should I spend my time?
  • What are my goals? Have they changed?
  • Where should I focus my attention?

Engaging in meaningful areas

This past year many of us have limited our lives and activities. We would benefit from examining our different roles and goals to make sure that we have fully reengaged in the right things. I am paying attention to the following areas to make sure that I am appropriately engaged:

  • My spiritual life
  • Family life
  • My relationships
  • Health and fitness
  • Finances
  • Social and community activities
  • Future goals

Your reflection may be different. Take some time and prepare for your next adventure as the world reopens and things return to normal.

More from Stephen Covey

Here are other quotes from Steven Covey that could prove helpful for you to ponder. They may help you recalibrate and become more fully engaged.

  • I am not a product of my circumstances; I am a product of my decisions.
  • The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.
  • Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important.
  • Live, love, laugh, leave a legacy.
